Wife of slain prominent lawyer positively linked to his murder

A Thohoyandou lawyer attached to Legal Aid South Africa was gunned down outside his home. His wife has since been arrested.

The wife of a prominent lawyer attached to Legal Aid South Africa, Mbambadzeni Manwadu, who was gunned down on 16 January 2022, has been arrested concerning the murder.

Police had initially arrested three suspects in connection with the murder, bringing the arrests to four in total.

WIFE ARRESTED FOR LAWYER HUSBAND’S DEATH

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the lawyer was allegedly gunned down in front of his home in Maniini Block K on Sunday night, 16 January, at about 20:30.

The 46-year-old reportedly arrived home on the night of the incident, and as he was getting out of his motor vehicle to open the gate, he was reportedly approached by two suspects, who shot him several times.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the 43-year-old wife was traced and arrested on Tuesday, 17 January, in Tshakuma village under Vhembe District by members of the Vhembe Trio Crimes Task Team.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, applauded the team for the excellent work.

Zwidofelangani Manwadu, the deceased’s wife, appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 18 January facing a charge of murder.

The woman was remanded in custody until 3 February 2023 for legal representation, while the other three suspects will appear in court on Friday, 20 January 2023.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority in Limpopo, the two suspects are also linked to the murder case of Collins Chabane Mayor and will be making their appearances in Limpopo Polokwane High Court, for trial on 29 May until 15 June 2023.

One of the suspects is linked to other several cases committed between 2020-2022, for robberies with aggravating circumstances whilst Nemakhavhani is also linked to several cases of housebreaking, robberies and theft committed around Thohoyandou.
