Things aren’t looking all that peachy peachy for Zuma

Baleka Mbete has given the go-ahead for the DA to put forward a motion to impeach el presidente in parliament.

Things aren’t looking all that

They’ve been pushing for this for a while now and it looks like the speaker has finally given in. According to the DA, Mbete has agreed to allow the motion of impeachment to go ahead, so MPs can look forward to reading all about it in their parliamentary papers.

The motion follows the South African government – with oversight and ultimate authority from Zuma – allowing Omar al-Bashir to escape the country even though the Pretoria High Court ordered that he be kept here.

So, what happens next? Well, according to EWN, an ad hoc committee will be set up to see whether the big man should be impeached, after which it will be put to a vote in parliament.

Two thirds would see him booted out of office… although he’ll remain the head of the ANC and essentially the country by proxy.
