The new Pope is on fire; here are his top ten tips on living a happy life

Since he took over the role from pope Benedict, ol’ Francis has brought about more changes in the Catholic mindset than Jacob Zuma has been “taken out of context”, making him quite the modernist in terms of Catholicism.

Religion hasn’t always had a very good track-record in preventing civil unrest or propagating an inclusive mindset among people with differing opinions; so whenever the leader the Vatican speaks out against religious dogma and actually makes some sense, it’s well worth the listen.

From letting women breastfeed their infants at his mass, to embracing same-sex couples and the idea that evolution is not completely misplaced, Pope Francis of Argentina has proved that he is not afraid to challenge the status quo.

Here are ten of his key tips on how to live a happy and successful life — them man’s about 1000 years old, so he must be doing something right.

Live and let live

Francis believes that you should, as the saying in Rome goes,

“Move forward and let others do the same.”

Proceed calmly in life

The once High School teacher describes this as “the ability to move with kindness and humility, helping you find calmness.”

Be giving of yourself to others

The Vicar of Christ was quoted once as saying:

“If you withdraw into yourself, you run the risk of becoming egocentric. And stagnant water becomes putrid.”

Kick consumerism and adopt a healthy sense of leisure

Switch off the TV, talk to one another, listen to one another. The pleasures of art, literature and playing together with children have been lost, according to Pope Francis.

Some days should be set aside to spend time with family

El Popeski firmly believes in taking one day every week and spending this time with your loved ones.

Find innovative ways of creating dignified jobs for the youth

It’s not enough to keep young people fed, we must create opportunities that empower them to take care of themselves. Therein lies true happiness.

Respect nature; take care of it

The Pope was quoted as saying:

“I think a question that we’re not asking ourselves is: Isn’t humanity committing suicide with this indiscriminate and tyrannical use of nature?”

Work toward peace

Francis believes that we should be more proactive and vocal about the need for peace. Peace is not something to spread quietly; according to el Pope it must be shouted.

Stop being negative

“Letting go of negative things quickly, that promotes good health.”

Respect others’ beliefs

According to him, the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you,” No.

Considering the nature of his job, this guy sure seems to have a level-headed approach to living a full and healthy life. Not all these ideas are new to us, but sometimes a reminder is all you need.
