EFF leader Julius Malema is one person who will definitely not be shedding a tear over the death of former president FW de Klerk.

De Klerk passed away at the age of 85, succumbing to cancer at his Fresnaye home in Cape Town on Thursday morning, 11 November 2021. In March, the FW de Klerk Foundation announced that he had been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a type of cancer caused by asbestos and most commonly occurring in the lining of the lungs or abdomen.

De Klerk was the last president under apartheid South Africa – having served between 1989 and 1994. He then served as deputy president of the country under Nelson Mandela from 1994 until 1996.

If Malema’s Twitter timeline is anything to go by, we shouldn’t expect any warm tributes from him about de Klerk anytime soon.

IT’S NO SECRET… MALEMA WAS NO FAN OF DE KLERK

Social media is awash with reactions to FW de Klerk’s death, including other EFF members, some who have even expressed their joy on social media over the news. Julius Malema, who has always been honest and open about his disdain for de Klerk, tweeted “Thank You God” just after retweeting an article announcing de Klerk’s passing.

Malema doesn’t even consider de Klerk a former South African president and was quick to call out local media for referring to him as such, including TV news channel Newzroom Afrika.

When de Klerk infamously said he didn’t consider apartheid a crime against humanity, Malema called him out on his remarks, even condemning government for welcoming him to Parliament.
