Young boys gang-rape mentally ill girl in Limpopo
Three Limpopo teenage boys have allegedly gang-raped a mentally ill 12-year-old girl in Steenbokpan near Lephalale.

Police in Limpopo have reported an alleged gang-rape of a mentally ill 12-year-old girl in Steenbokpan last week. The accused are three boys who are not older than 14 years of age.
MENTALLY ILL GIRL GANG-RAPED IN LIMPOPO
Lephalale police confirmed opening a case against three boys aged between 11 and 14 for sexually abusing the mentally challenged 12-year-old girl. The family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit took over the investigation.
“The police have opened a case of rape after a 12-year-old child was allegedly gang-raped by three minor boys aged between the ages of 11-14.,” Motlafela Mojapelo said.
BOY SUSPECTS TO FACE CHILD JUSTICE ACT ASSESSMENT
Mojapelo added to confirm that the three teenage boys will be taken for evaluation under the Child Justice Act.
“The three minor boys are being subjected to assessment and will be dealt with in accordance with the Child Justice Act.”
The Child Justice Act 75 of 2008 serves the purpose of a criminal justice system for accused minors. It is distinguished from the criminal justice system that applies to South African adult crime suspects.
The Act protects children from detention and away from the formal criminal justice system, mainly through diversion.
In other rape-related news, a judge has recommended the dismissal of a sexual abuse case against global football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The incident took place in Las Vegas more than a decade ago. Kathryn Mayorga, a former model, alleges Ronaldo attacked her in a hotel room in 2009.
The Portuguese international has always insisted that the encounter was consensual.
