Four suspects appeared before the Mkhulu Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday, 12 July, in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Skhumbuzo Intelligent Sikhumbane.

SUSPECTS CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING AND MURDER

The 24-year-old victim’s family reported him missing at the Calcutta police station on 2 July. The family reportedly said they received a phone call from people known to them.

The people allegedly alluded that Sikhumbane was accused of stealing a laptop. He disappeared without a trace after the phone call, according to police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli.

“Through investigation, it was revealed that he was kidnapped. A case was then opened to that effect and the four suspects were later apprehended and charged with kidnapping,” said Mdhluli.

Sikhumbane’s body was found in the Sabie River on 9 July after a search that involved his family, the Mlkhuhlu community and the police.

One suspect appeared before the court on Thursday, 7 July. He faced only kidnapping charges.

After the discovery of the victim’s body all four of the accused face kidnapping and murder charges.

The suspects, Prayer Mdluli, 29, Christ Zwane, 30, Kriel Khoza, 24, and Evidence Nkuna, 36, are next expected in court on Monday, 18 July, when they are expected to make a formal bail application. They were remanded in custody until then.
