Police arrested three suspected robbers, aged 25 to 47, in connection with business and cash-in-transit robberies and automatic teller machine ATM bombings in Gauteng.

CASH-IN-TRANSIT ROBBERS FOUND WITH AK47 RIFLE

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said an intelligence-driven operation on Monday, 06 February 2023, led to the arrest of three male suspects. The suspects are believed to be involved in cash-in-transit robberies, business robberies, and ATM bombings in Gauteng.

“The suspects were arrested in Tshwane. Police seized high-caliber firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, shotgun, pistol, and scores of ammunition, explosives, and stained cash. The suspects were planning to hit yet another ATM in Tshwane before they were apprehended.”

POLICE FOUND STAINED CASH ON ROBBERS

Masondo said police received information about the location of armed suspects involved in business and cash-in-transit robberies and ATM bombings.

He said several units of the South African Police Service and other law enforcement agencies mobilised. The information led them to a house in Soshanguve, where police found weapons, explosives, and cash. Police arrested two suspects, aged 40 and 34.

The team arrested a third suspect, aged 25, in Lotus Gardens in Pretoria. Police seized an illegal firearm and stained cash.

Police continue to search for other suspects, and those arrested will appear before Pretoria Magistrate Court in due course.
