A suspected drunk driver fled an accident scene on foot after colliding with two vehicles on Russom Street in Verulam, in KwaZulu-Natala.

The accident happened on Wednesday, 28 December 2022.

THE DRIVER ABANDONED HIS CAR

Arrive Alive reports that motorists contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 17:49 after a white Toyota Etios crashed into a metal barrier.

According to witnesses, the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot in an unknown direction,” Arrive Alive reports.

“RUSA officers were informed that the Toyota Etios first collided with a white Hyundai H100 bakkie and blue Toyota Yaris as they were exiting a supermarket.

“The light motor vehicle thereafter crashed into a metal barrier across the road. According to onlookers, the driver appeared intoxicated.”

The suspect’s vehicle was handed to the Verulam police, who is conducting an investigation.

In another incident, 18 people were injured, two seriously injured when the bakkie they travelled on overturned.

Arrive Alive reports that when paramedics arrived at the scene, several people were sitting on the ground next to the side of the road.

The two seriously injured patients are in a hospital receiving medical care.

Arrive Alive reported that the paramedics assessed the patients and found that sixteen people had minor to moderate injuries, while two adults had severe injuries.

“The patients were treated, and the seriously injured patients were provided with advanced life support interventions.

“They were then transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” according to Arrive Alive.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

On 22 December 2022, two infants were airlifted in critical condition and a one-year-old died after a serious accident on the N14 in the Centurion.

Emer-G-Med paramedics and other services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on the N14 at approximately 08:30.

Paramedics were met with complete chaos when they arrived at the scene.
