Suspect arrested while attempting to sell stolen Toyota Fortuner

Before finalising the deal, a suspect attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Fortuner at a dealership was arrested yesterday

A suspect attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Fortuner at a dealership in Randburg went sour after he was immediately nabbed.

The 53-year-old male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for possession of a stolen Toyota Fortuner in Newlands, Randburg.

HOW THE STOLEN TOYOTA FORTUNER WAS RECOVERED

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said that on Saturday 23 July 2022, whilst conducting crime prevention patrols officers received information from TrackerSA of a White Toyota Fortuner which was stolen as per the Norwood SAPS case.

“Officers responded to the position of the stolen vehicle and found a male attempting to sell the car at a dealership on Main Road in Newlands,” he said.

“The male suspect was arrested and detained at Florida SAPS. He will appear in court in due course,”Fihla added.

He also added that the stolen vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound for verification.

Prior to this arrest, another male suspect in possession of a hijacked vehicle was arrested in Mulbarton.

ANOTHER TOYOTA VEHICLE RECOVERED

“On Friday 22 July 2022, at about 22h00 officers received a lookout for a White Toyota Hilux that was hijacked during the day.
The vehicle’s tracking signal was traced to The Broads Street, Mulbarton.

Upon arrival at the said location, the premise was searched and the vehicle was recovered in the garage.

Further information received by the officers led to the arrest of the male suspect. He was detained at Mondeor Police Station,” Fihla detailed.

He further explained that the 55-year-old male faces charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

This arrested was effected by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit together with the SAPS Johannesburg K9 Unit in Mulbarton.
