Suspects behind spate of farm robberies in Limpopo arrested

The suspects believed to be behind farm robberies in Limpopo were linked to 20 cases of housebreaking and theft.

Police have arrested four suspects allegedly behind a spate of farm attacks and robberies in parts of Limpopo.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 34, were arrested on Thursday, 4 May 2023.

SUSPECTS BEHIND FARM ROBBERIES ARRESTED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the suspects were subsequently linked to about 20 cases of housebreaking and theft that occurred at Tweefontein, Soordoring farms in the Westerburg policing area.

Ledwaba said the farmers in these areas had been experiencing burglaries and theft in their farms, and the suspects could not be identified, and this was a serious concern to them and the police.

Police finally received information about a group of suspects allegedly engaged in burglaries within farming communities, in and around Polokwane along the N1 road to Makhado and promptly assembled a team of operatives that consisted, Crime Intelligence, Tracking unit, Murder, and Robbery to investigate the cases.

“Their hard work paid off when they ultimately had a breakthrough when they arrested four suspects in possession of suspected stolen property that included four amplifiers, two laptops, five generators, three speakers, two grass cutters, three angle grinders, two jigsaws, a plasma tv, bank card, blanket and cables,” he said.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate Court soon, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen goods, housebreaking, and theft, amongst other cases.
