Embattled North West premier Supra Mahumapelo has revealed further details about an alleged plot to have him killed, as EWN report he “fears for his life”.
The divisive political leader has refused to budge from office, despite a wealth of pressure from opposition parties and the ANC itself. It was reported by BusinessLive that Cyril Ramaphosa has already told Mahumapelo to resign, or face the sack.
His prolonged stay as Premier has seen riots all across the province, whilst Supra – who is facing multiple allegations over corruption and poor governance – clings on to power for as long as he can.
Who’s trying to kill Supra Mahumapelo?
However, it seems like Mahumapelo has something a little more pressing to worry about than his political future. He has claimed this weekend that he is the subject of an assassination plot.
In a statement issued on Saturday, spokesman for the premier Brian Setswambung says that the plot includes hiring hitmen who have already been given R250 000.
Hawks are currently investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the ANC’s Top Six are meeting at Luthuli House to discuss the matter of Supra’s future. It almost seems like a foregone conclusion, with the party’s executive ready to recall him on Monday.
Will Mahumapelo be sacked?
SABC report that the EFF are also raring to go, with a motion of no confidence ready to be re-tabled in local government. The last proposed vote fell through at the eleventh hour.
The red berets appealed to the courts to get the vote changed so it is held by secret ballot. However, Mahumapelo is not in favour of this. This lead to a postponement which eventually prompted civil unrest in the region.
It now looks certain that Supra Mahumapelo will no longer be the man making the decision, here. The ANC have grown tired of his stubbornness, and aren’t willing to wait for the premier to suddenly find a conscience.
