Two men were arrested for alleged possession of stolen property by the Cape Town police on Tuesday, 11 October. This comes after a trailer with a container was stolen from a warehouse in Montague Gardens last Thursday.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said members studied video footage after the incident was reported and it led them to a house where they spied two light delivery vehicles offloading cargo.
“This action paved the way for a joint operation between Crime Intelligence, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit detectives and Bellville police on Tuesday 11 October 2022 at a local liquor outlet in Strand Road, Bellville, where they confiscated 216 boxes of beer with a total value of R600 000,” said Twigg.
Two suspects – who are both believed to be Chinese nationals – were arrested for possession of the stolen beer and eventually the trailer and container that was reported stolen were found abandoned in Athlone.
The suspects – aged 27 and 36 – are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court imminently.
