‘Suspension is not enough’: Calls for Stellenbosch ‘pisser’ to be expelled

Stellenbosch University students say suspension is not enough for the white student who urinated on a black student’s belongings.

The Stellenbosch University SRC wants the student caught on camera urinating on a black student’s belongings at Huis Marais residence to be expelled.

On Monday, Stellenbosch University suspended the white student who was caught urinating on a black student’s laptop, in what was allegedly a racially-motivated act.

CALLS FOR STELLENBOSCH URINATOR TO BE EXPELLED

In an interview with eNCA, SASCO Western Cape convener, Sifiso Zungu said the suspension itself is not enough and students are calling for the culprit who has since been identified to be expelled as this is not the first incident at Stellenbosch.

“We have a particular history with that specific residence (Huis Marais), many cases have been reported and in February this year black students were called the k word and nothing happened. The university said the matter is under investigation,” he said.

Zungu also said that students are tired of the University of Stellenbosch putting matters under investigation and there is no outcome or action taken.

“Students have told the university that they are not interested in the suspension but want the white student to be an example and be expelled. This will send a strong message to others in the same student residence or in the university space  who are still participating in racist acts,” he said.

PISSER SLAMMED FOR AWFUL APOLOGY

In a 16-second clip that was shared on social media, the guilty party gave a very brief statement, saying: ‘I just want to apologise in general for my behaviour, I know what I did was wrong, and I’m sorry’.

The student was criticised for ‘showing zero remorse’ and others said he only apologised because he was caught on camera.

Stellenbosch’s student affairs director, Dr. Choice Makhetha, publicly stated that an investigation will now take place, to get to the bottom of what transpired at Huis Marais. Makhetha said he is confident that justice will be served.
