Standard Bank has apologised for disruptions to its services after customers were not able to transact on Sunday,8 May 2022.

Several customers took to social media to express their disappointment and frustration. Some could not pay for their groceries, fuel and for food in restaurants.

WHY WERE STANDARD BANK SERVICES DOWN?

In a brief statement Standard Bank apologised to users who were not able to access their services.

“We are sorry that you are not able to access our Banking App, Internet Banking, USSD or transact with Credit Cards, Point of Sale (POS) and ATM’s,” the bank said.

Despite the bank assuring customers that their services have been restored, some disputed this saying they were still experiencing problems.

“Earlier today you were not able to transact on Banking App, Internet Banking, Cellphone Banking, Credit Cards, Point of Sale (POS) and ATMs. All services have now been fully restored. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the bank said.

“Standard Bank must was down so now we get an SMS that we have paid THREE times for the one purchase of petrol. Just called their 0860… number only to get a message that we have been successfully authenticated but the transaction cannot be completed, please call back! WTF!!” @MikeChong tweeted.

“Standard Bank must be the most useless bank that ever existed. I have had fraud committed and the bank blamed me for it. This month they stopped my card and I could not pay my bills. It takes them days to get a new card to you and the temporary one is useless.

“Today, info to pay for my groceries and the cards don’t work. I phone the bank-30 minutes to get someone-and they say ‘the system is down’. For how long? Nobody knows. ATMs are not working. Basically Standard Bank is the Eskom of banking,” @phillipdexter tweeted.
