Alert: Load shedding looms on Tuesday – as Eskom issue ‘power warning’

Apologies but we have bad news. Eskom has requested the public to immediately reduce their usage….otherwise, you guessed it – load shedding!

We hate to be the bearer of bad news but Eskom has done it yet again. While a certain stage of load shedding has not yet been confirmed, the power system is under severe pressure meaning there is a high probability or risk of load shedding.

ESKOM ANNOUNCES ‘SUPPLY CONSTRAINTS’

On Tuesday 25 March, Eskom said a shortage of generation capacity, caused by breakdowns in generation units and delays in others returning to service, resulted in supply constraints.

“While no loadshedding is  anticipated at this point, Eskom could be forced to implement Stage 1 or, if necessary, Stage 2 loadshedding at short notice should any further breakdowns occur,” it said in the statement.

The embattled power utility was even nice enough to let us know what time it would most likely occur if it were to take place.

“This is most likely to occur between 17:00 and 22:00 in the evening,” it added.

OUTLOOK FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK LOOKS PROMISING

Eskom went on to say that the public’s assistance in these difficult times amid load shedding has always made a difference.

“Eskom would like to appeal to  the public to help the country get through these constraints by reducing the usage of electricity. The current outlook for the remainder of the week is expected to improve as Eskom teams are working  tirelessly to return more generators to service,” it said.

Breakdowns are currently totalling 14 857MW of capacity, while another 2 220MW is unavailable due  to planned maintenance. Eskom will communicate promptly should there be any significant changes to the system.

TO BE FAIR…WE WERE WARNED ABOUT MORE LOAD SHEDDING

Eskom’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha, in a recent interview with Cape Talk, said Eskom has been consistent in saying there is a high occurrence of load shedding that we should expect until much later this year when much of the maintenance has been conducted.

“So this being winter, yes we will have more load shedding. I cannot at this stage say there will be load shedding every day but I would like the people of South Africa to expect that there will be load shedding during this period,” he said.
