Spanish Grand Prix: Hamilton praises team after podium finish with Russell

Mercedes-AMG recorded their best result of the Formula 1 season at the Spanish Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton’s second place finish.

Mercedes-AMG scored their best result of the season so far at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Seven-time drivers’ champion Lewis Hamilton finished second and George Russell third. The duo started P4 and P12 respectively on the Soft tyre, both drivers made progress in the early stages of the Spanish Grand Prix.

MERCEDES HAD A FANTASTIC OUTING AT THE SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Russell sped to P7 on the opening circuit, with Lewis moving up to P3 within the first 10 laps.

After running a longer first stint, Hamilton and Russell both switched to the Medium compound and used their strong race pace to move up to P2 and P3 just after the halfway point of the Grand Prix, according to Mercedes F1.

Hamilton was aware of the large margin of 24 seconds between winner Max Verstappen and Mercedes. He said it would be difficult to fight for the championship after the Red Bull’s strong start, according to PlanetF1.

After the race both drivers spoke to the media, and Hamilton was beaming from his performance at the Spanish Grand Prix.

The team was comfortably faster than the Aston Martin, something that couldn’t be said for the past two races.

THE NEXT RACE ON THE CALENDAR IS IN CANADA

The Briton said: “I am hoping from here onwards we are in a good place. For sure, there will be some circuits where the car isn’t quite in the right window but hopefully the next few races should suit us.”

Russell emphasised how improtant teamwork is and lauded the factory members in the United Kingdom.

He said: “This result highlights all the hard work and efforts that have gone on at the factory to bring these upgrades.

“We had a strong race here last year, so the next couple of races will be key to see if we can consistently produce results like this and close the gap to Red Bull,” he said after the Spanish Grand Prix.
