Search and rescue teams from South Africa have been deployed to Turkey after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit in southeast of area in the early morning hours of 6 February.

Medi Response and Gift of the Givers deployed search and rescue members after an earthquake devastated both Turkey and Syria early in the week.
This earthquake leaft hundreds dead and thousands displaced.
On Wednesday, 8 January, the teams arrived safely and met with various international search and rescue teams.
They are now awaiting internal flights to reach the affected areas
It is currently snowing in the area with sub-zero temperatures.

The US Geological Survey reported that a 7.8 magnitude tremor hit near the city of Gaziantep at 4:17 local time (01:17 GMT) with a depth of 17.9km.
The Syrian health ministry reported deaths in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, and Tartus.
In response to the major earthquakes, the airport in Adana closed for flights until further notice.
