South African news today: Friday 28 September

Dros restaurant fallout

The alleged rapist of a seven-year-old at the Pretoria eatery does not appear in court until Tuesday 2 October. However, videos and photos of the accused are spreading like wildfire on Twitter. But it’s a legal minefield, and here is why you should avoid sharing this content.

Ramaphosa’s land comments

It was a slip of the tongue perhaps, but Cyril hasn’t been able to charm his way out of this one. On Wednesday, he told Bloomberg there were no farm killings in South Africa, despite the crime stats saying otherwise. His office has since confirmed he was trying to dispute Trump’s version of events.
