Stimulus package

Cyril Ramaphosa is about to drop a much-needed revival plan for the South African economy on Friday. We had half-a-glimpse into what is to come yesterday, but all will be revealed later on.

State capture inquiry

It’s getting heated. First of all, Lynne Brown was denied the chance to cross-examine witnesses who implicated her in state capture. Then, Ajay Gupta flat-out denied meeting Mcebisis Jonas and blasted Thuli Madonsela for asking him “leading questions” during an interview with the former Public Protector.

Dollar to rand value for Friday 21 September

It’s shored up nicely after a non-volatile week, and it’s now at the mercy of the stimulus package details. On Friday morning, the rand will open at $1 : R14.28 – and improvement of 35 cents over the last 24 hours.

Interest rate fallout

By four votes to three, SARB decided to keep the interest rate as it is. However, there was an ANC gaffe as the party were forced to retract a statement on the decision. Head of the ANC’s economic transformation committee Enoch Godongwana says the retracted statement was an unprecedented slip of protocol.

Hlaudi with a chance of failure

Oh, Hurricane Hlaudi. His battle to be reinstated to the SABC hierarchy has been turned down by the CCMA. He was deemed to have brought the company into disrepute following an impromptu press conference he held in 2017 to discuss his future. Silly boy. [Read more: News24]

Dam levels

The dam levels in Cape Town are now at 72.7%, after a midweek surge saw a 2.7% improvement in water levels. In fact, two separate dams have had to open their sluice gates to release water. What a luxury!
