The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is once again reminding special COVID-19 SRD grant recipients that the deadline for the collection of unclaimed grants from the first cycle is around the corner. If the affected beneficiaries do not collect their grants by the end of November it will be forfeited.

LAST CHANCE TO PICK UP FIRST CYCLE GRANTS

The deadline for the expiry of the grants was on 31 August, initially. In October, SASSA announced that the deadline was extended until 30 November after Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu published Ministerial Directions.

“Payments not withdrawn by any beneficiary by the end of November 2021 will be forfeited to the State to fund other government priorities,” said SASSA at the time.

The Agency’s CEO Busisiwe Memela-Khambula described the move by the government as an “early Christmas” for beneficiaries who are yet to collect their grants.

“We also acknowledge that this special grant goes a long way in assisting the most vulnerable in society,” said Memela-Khambula and encouraged approved beneficiaries to collect their unclaimed grants from Post Offices as soon as possible.

SASSA previously said beneficiaries can check if their names are on the list on the Agency’s website – www.sassa.gov.za – if they are unsure before heading out to pick up their grants. Alternatively, enquiries can be made via telephone at 0800-60-10-11.
