The winner of the PowerBall Plus jackpot stepped forward to collect her winnings a little over a week after the winner of the main draw claimed his prize. The national lottery operator Ithuba said the lucky winner is an unemployed woman from Limpopo.

POWERBALL PLUS WINNER CLAIMS PRIZE

A whopping R150 million was won when the PowerBall and PB PLUS draws were made on Tuesday, 16 November. A 72-year-old retired engineer from Margate, KwaZulu-Natal walked away with the R100 million jackpot in the main draw after spending R7,50 on his wager.

Now, the winner of the R50 million PB PLUS jackpot has stepped forward. According to Ithuba, she is a former general worker from Groblersdal.

The 28-year-old spent R45 on her wager and opted for the quick pick method, which selected the winning numbers – 29, 32, 33, 45, 47 and PowerBall 15.

“I had been unemployed since 2016, and been surviving off my mother’s small income, before that I was a general worker on the farm. I decided to play the PowerBall when my boyfriend encouraged me to,” said the woman.

PLANS

The winner said she plans to build homes for her mother and her boyfriend’s mother with her winnings.

“At the moment I am so overwhelmed with mixed emotions, I am happy and scared at the same time.

“I had been playing for a long time and I believe that everyone has their day, when it’s your time it will happen so people should keep on playing because you never know,” she said.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza welcomed the winner into “the multi-millionaire circle.” She added that the woman will be offered trauma counselling and extensive financial advice.
