Paul Makaula: Man accused of hammering ConCourt is a murderer

The Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court heard that Paul Makaula, who is accused of vandalising ConCourt, was convicted of murder in 2010.

Paul Makaula, the suspect accused of vandalising the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein, made his first court appearance on Friday morning, 7 January.

PAUL MAKAULA CHARGED WITH MALICIOUS DAMAGE

Paul Makaula appeared before the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on charges of malicious damage to property.

The court heard that the accused is currently out on parole after being convicted of murder in 2010.

He was remanded in custody until 25 March for further investigation. Makaula said he did not wish to apply for bail.

WARNING SHOT FIRED

The damages to the Constitutional Court building is an estimated R50 000. When members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrived at the scene, Makaula was allegedly caught in the act of smashing the court’s windows.

According to the police, the accused did not stop hammering the windows until a warning shot was fired.
