Six licensing officials from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison who were busted for multi-million road fraud are out on bail.

The six licensing officials were arrested by the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s National Traffic Anti-Corruption (NTACU) and the Hawks earlier this morning appeared at the Mpumalanga Magistrates Court.

THE NAMES OF THE LICENSING OFFICIALS

The six accused are five administrators and one Mbombela municipal clerk, namely: Xoliswa Celia Ngcelwane (51), Allman Thabang Masuku (37), Nkosinathi Samuel Gumede (44), Thembi Millicent Moslehi (53), Agness Nosipho Ndzinisa (42) and Nompumelelo Winni Nxumalo (35). All were arrested on suspicion of being involved in multi-million-rand vehicle licensing fraud.

The alleged crimes were committed between 2018 and 2019 and it is believed that they involved collusion with many other officials from registering authorities in the province.

According to RTMC, all the accused appeared before the court for bail application and were released on R15 000 bail each.

“They are likely to face 603 counts of fraud, theft and money laundering when reappearing in court on 29 September 2022,” RTMC indicated.

An extensive investigation by the RTMC’s NTAC indicates that the province has lost close to R60 million in revenue as a result of alleged unlawful activities by suspects.

“NTACU together with the Hawks continue to investigate the fraudulent redetermination and classification of vehicles to avoid payment of licensing fees and penalties and more arrests are expected”.

“The RTMC reiterates its commitment in dealing with fraud and corruption and urges members of the public to report all suspicions of malfeasances, bribery, fraud and corruption by sending a WhatsApp message to 0832937989 or sending an email to ntacu@rtmc.co.za,” RTMC appealed.

In March this year, the RTMC welcomed the corruption and fraud sentences handed down to three traffic officials by the courts recently.
Three traffic officials were sentenced for various acts of fraud and corruption.
The traffic officials included a license examiner, a traffic cop and a vehicle examiner.

The sentences ranged from R600 to two years imprisonment.
