Three arrested for murder of Collins Chabane Municipality Mayor

Police have arrested suspects in connection with the murder of Collins Chabane Municipality Mayor, Moses Maluleke.

Limpopo police have confirmed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor, Moses Maluleke who was shot dead recently.

This week, police offered a reward of up to R250 000 for any valuable information that can lead to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the suspects responsible for the murder of Maluleke.

SUSPECTS APPREHENDED FOR MURDER OF COLLINS CHABANE MAYOR

As previously reported, the 56-year-old Mayor was gunned down at his home on Thursday, 21 July 2022. His 18-year-old son was also shot and wounded.

According to police, information at their  disposal indicates that three armed suspects entered Moses Maluleke’s home at Xikundu village under Saselamani policing area at about 19:00 and demanded money. The suspects then shot the victims and fled the scene.

The Mayor died instantly, while his son sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, who visited the scene on the night of the shooting, immediately assembled a task team led by a Senior Officer to probe the incident. Intensive investigations are currently underway.

MOSES MALULEKE DESCRIBED AS AN EXAMPLARY LEADER

The ANC in Limpopo described Maluleke as an exemplary leader with dedication and discipline.

Spokesperson Jimmy Mathole Mashaka says the party is saddened and disturbed by the “heinous” killing of Maluleke.

“This killing is very barbaric and senseless. However, we are confident in our South African law enforcement agencies that the perpetrators of this heinous criminal conduct will be brought to book and must be severely punished,” he said.
