Three suspects pounced on a Durban man as he reached for his door handle on Tuesday and within seconds his vehicle was gone.

A Durban man was ambushed by three suspects as he returned to his vehicle on Tuesday morning, 15 February. The incident was recorded by the CCTV camera of a nearby business.

According to the CCTV footage overlay, the incident took place just after 8:00. A man waves at the victim as he descends the stairs and heads to his Mercedes-Benz.

As soon as the victim got to the parking area and reached for his door handle, the suspects pounced.

The main belligerent wore a motorcycle helmet, which covered his face, and quickly wrestled the man to the ground and waved a gun in his face. The suspects got hold of the keys.

One of the suspects reversed into the road and another got into the passenger seat, while this was happening the gun-toting man calmly walked across the street and disappeared from view.

The victim waited until his vehicle sped away before getting to his feet.

The video clip of the incident is 52 seconds long.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala told News24 that the vehicle was recovered on the same day on Shaya Road in Marianhill.

No arrests have been made and no injuries were reported. A case of hijacking is under investigation.
