Brutal: Elderly woman found dead from apparent belt-strangling in Pheonix

Is there a sick criminal trend to kill elders going on? A 72-year-old woman has been found dead in her home in Phoenix, Durban.

An elderly woman of 72 has been discovered dead after police were called to Edgebury Road, Easterbury on Monday 3 January.


According to local police, the local officers received a complaint of murder at around the hour of 18:00 on Monday.

Police arrived at the scene to meet family members of the deceased who showed the cops to the dead body of the elderly woman in Phoenix.

“The body of the 72-year-old deceased female was pointed out to police by family members. It is alleged that the victim was strangled with a belt by unknown people,” the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said via IOL.

“The motive surrounding the incident is unknown and a case of murder was opened at Phoenix SAPS for investigation,” Mbele added.


A disturbing murder case has been opened after the finding of an 86-year-old woman’s dead body in Gqeberha on Sunday.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge, the dead elderly woman is identified as Nontsuku Annie Solomon.

Her lifeless body was found by loved ones in the bedroom doorway of her home in Mkwayi Street, Greenfields.

“On 02 January 2022 at about 13:00 the family of Nontsuku Annie Solomon, 86-year-old, found her body in the bedroom doorway at her home in Mkwayi Street, Greenfields,” SAPS’ Beegtre said.

Local police and the family have suggested that the possibility of robbery is a possibility but did not share exactly why. “She was stabbed several times in her head and neck. The motive for the murder is not known yet, but robbery have not been ruled out.”
