Man KILLED after running out of fuel on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal

A man was killed after he and his cousin were left stranded when their car ran out of fuel; one suspect was apprehended

On Saturday, 14 January, emergency services were called to the scene of a shooting on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal, where one person was killed.

A suspect linked to a spate of robberies and attacks on stranded motorists was arrested.

Man dies on the scene after being shot

After receiving reports of a shooting, Reaction Officers were dispatched to the southbound lane of the N2 near the Umdloti, KwaZulu-Natal off-ramp.

Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene at around 17:51.

Officers arrived to find paramedics from a private ambulance service performing Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a 37-year-old man.

He died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Killed after running out of fuel

The injured man and his cousin were traveling from Ballito to Durban in a silver Opel Corsa when their car ran out of fuel.

They were waiting for help in the emergency lane when they were confronted by two suspects who attempted to rob them.

One of the suspects had a firearm. The driver drew his pistol and both parties exchanged shots.

The passenger was shot in his chest and the suspects fled into a dense bush along the highway

The driver was helped by another family member whom he had contacted earlier.

They refueled the vehicle and drove 1 kilometer away from the shooting scene before contacting authorities.

Suspect caught after killing the victim

Reaction Officers returned to the scene of the shooting and entered the bush where the suspects had fled. This after they interviewed the surviving victim.

Officers continued to search the dense vegetation until they found and apprehended one of the perpetrators.

The suspect, a resident of Inanda – KwaZulu-Natal, was shot in both legs.

He is suspected of being involved in several murders and attacks on motorists who experienced mechanical failures on that stretch of road.
