Man dies after sustaining multiple ‘high calibre gunshot wounds’ in KZN

A man in his forties was gunned down in Umhlanga on Thursday morning. He was was sitting in his car when the attack happened.

A man believed to be aged in his forties was gunned down in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday morning, 27 January. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage but reports from the scene indicate that it may have been an assassination.

MAN DIES IN HAIL OF BULLETS

Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the emergency service responded to a shooting incident in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga at 9:43 on Thursday.

“Reports from the scene indicate that an adult male believed to be in his forties had sustained multiple high calibre gunshot wounds throughout his body in what appears to be a hit,” said Herbst.

Netcare911 paramedics declared the man dead as he showed no signs of life.

Reaction Unit South Africa – a private security company in the area – said its personnel were dispatched to Meridian Drive after residents reported gunfire in the vicinity.

“On arrival, it was established that the driver of a white Toyota Corolla Cross had been shot while seated in his vehicle,” said RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram.

Balram said the man’s vehicle was shot multiple times and several rifle cartridges were found at the scene, echoing Netcare911.

Herbst said the circumstances that led to the alleged assassination would be investigated by the relative authorities.
