Higginson highway shooting: At least four killed in Durban shootout

A deadly shootout on the Higginson Highway in Durban brought traffic to a standstill on Wednesday, 2 March.

At least four people were shot and killed in a gun battle on the M1 Higginson Highway, which crosses the N2 near Chatsworth, Durban on Wednesday morning, 2 March.

ALS paramedics said it responded to multiple reports made about the shooting.

“ALS Paramedics are on the scene of a shooting on Higginson Highway over the N2 Bridge. Reports are multiple people have been shot,” said ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

According to anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, the shooting broke out after a high-speed chase following an attempted hijacking in Musgrave.

Photographs of the scene show wrecked vehicles and what appears to be dead bodies strewn in the road.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is pictured on the scene but is yet to release a statement on the matter – it will be added once it becomes available.
