Gqeberha mall shooting: Police open attempted murder investigation

A 21-year-old victim was shot while sitting and talking outside a Gqeberha mall on Wednesday, 23 February.

Detectives from the Kabega Park police station have opened an attempted murder investigation after a victim was shot from an unknown direction at a shopping centre at Gqeberha on Wednesday afternoon, 23 February.

GQEBERHA MALL SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the 21-year-old victim was sitting outside the entrance of the mall in Gqeberha at approximately 13:35.

“While sitting and talking, a shot was fired and the victim fell to the ground,” said the police spokesperson.

The victim sustained a gunshot injury to the upper leg and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and a case of attempted murder has been opened for further investigation.
