The family of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi confirmed that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder and traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch has tested positive for COVID-19 again, on Monday, 6 December.

BUTHELEZI TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Buthelezi contracted the disease in August 2020 and his symptoms were asymptomatic. The family said his symptoms are “relatively asymptomatic” again and he remains in good spirits.

“His only regret is being unable to attend the installation ceremony of the Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, as intended on Friday,” said the family.

Buthelezi is self-isolating at home for the mandatory period. According to his representatives, the Prince has been “double vaccinated.”

During his latest COVID-19 bout, Buthelezi will be monitored by a “capable team” and the family has asked for space while he recovers as they “await a good outcome.”

“We also urge everyone to be circumspect in this time of increasing infections and to vigilantly take the necessary precautions to protect both lives and livelihoods,” said the family.
