A pair of women were found with fatal gunshot injuries in the Joe Slovo settlement in the Eastern Cape on Saturday evening, 19 March.

WOMEN FOUND DEAD IN JOE SLOVO

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the women were found lying in an open field next to a pathway at approximately 19:30 on Saturday.

One of the women sustained two gunshot wounds and died at the scene, while the other – who was shot in the head – later died in hospital on Sunday, 20 March.

“It is further alleged that both women were together when they were shot. The motive and suspects are unknown at this stage,” said Naidu.

The police are yet to identify the women who are believed to be aged between 25 and 30. One of the victims is reportedly from Kwazakele while the other has a tattoo of an open book on her right arm.

The tattooed victim was clothed in a blue golf shirt and dark-coloured pants, said Naidu.

Two cases of murder are under investigation by the Kwazakele SAPS.

Members of the public who are able to help officers identify the women or help track down their relatives are encouraged to contact Detective Captain Shelley Shepherd at 071-362-8707 or CrimeStop at 08600-10111.
