The new Tshwane Mayor has been disqualified as a PR councillor

The City of Tshwane executive Mayor, Dr. Murunwa Makwarela, has been disqualified as a PR councillor because people who are unrehabilitated insolvents cannot hold public office.

City Manager, Johann Mettler, wrote to the Gauteng Provincial Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission this morning, 7 March 2023. He informed him of a casual vacancy following the disqualification of COPE PR councillor Dr. Murunwa Makwarela.

Electricity minister must be transparent

The newly appointed Electricity Minister, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, must be transparent with citizens and provinces on how this plan will resolve the energy crisis urgently.

Cabinet reshuffle: New national executive members take oath of office

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo swore in the new members of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s national executive on Tuesday evening following the cabinet reshuffle on Monday.

‘Do you choose the oath or affirmation,” Zondo asked each new member. He then asked if they considered their choice binding on their conscience before the new executive members promised to uphold the Constitution and serve South Africa to the best of their ability.

Johannesburg pile-up: One dead, 21  injured in crash along M71

Multiple people were injured, and at least one person was killed in a Johannesburg pile-up along the M71 road near the Juskei River on Tuesday morning, 7 March.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said paramedics responded to a mass casualty collision in the area on Tuesday.

“Multiple commuters have been left with critical injuries. No fatalities have been reported at this stage,” he said at first. Later he added, “Update from the scene. At this stage, we can confirm one person has lost their life. Twenty-one people have been left injured.”

M41 pile-up: 23-year-old truck driver, who fled the scene, arrested

The truck driver allegedly caused the massive pile-up on the M41 Highway in Durban on Monday morning, 6 March, was arrested after he surrendered himself to police.

The 23-year-old was driving a side-tipper truck that crashed into vehicles and caused a 45-vehicle accident. Twenty-two people were injured, including three patients who suffered critical injuries,

According to SABC News, the truck swerved off the road and overturned near the crash site, but the driver fled and only handed himself over to police later on Monday.
