Stage 11 load shedding could be implemented this winter

Eskom could be implementing Stage 11 load shedding this winter.

This is according to Virtual Energy and Power director Clyde Mallinson. He analysed historical winter load shedding data.

He said Eskom must lift the coal fleet’s capacity factor (CF) to at least 50%. This is if they want to prevent high levels of load-shedding over the winter months.

Rush hour traffic Nightmare: Traffic Index 2022 reveals SA’s most congested cities

The TomTom Traffic Index looked at data from 390 cities in 56 countries from six continents in 2022 and found that South Africa’s capital Pretoria is home to the worst rush-hour traffic in the country.

According to the ranking, it takes an average of 16 minutes to travel 10 kilometres in Pretoria. This is 40 seconds worse than the average time in 2021, and the average speed during rush hour tops out at approximately 32km/h. Drivers in Pretoria spend about 145 hours in rush hour traffic per year.

Hilton Wicks: Kidnapped former Kingswood College headboy found

Nqanqarhu businessman, Hilton Wicks, who was kidnapped on Friday, 24 March has been found unharmed.

Wicks, 24, a former headboy at Kingswood College, was reportedly abducted near his home.

The Wicks family owns a number of businesses in Ugie and Nqanqarhu under the KwaWicks group, including a Spar, Build It and fuel station.
