Power utility Eskom has published its expected load shedding schedule for this weekend, hoping to ease from Stage 5 to Stage 3 by Monday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has once again assured South Africans that Eskom is dealing with the current load shedding crisis.

The Gauteng Traffic Police will be patrolling and conducting operations on major highways due to congestion expected this weekend.

Meanwhile, more dead fish have been spotted in Umgeni River as eThekwini Municipality continues to battle with high levels of E.coli due to sewerage.

The first batch of 10 000 newly trained Constables were welcomed to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Eskom confirms load shedding ALL weekend: Here’s the schedule

Power utility Eskom has published its expected load shedding schedule for this weekend, hoping to ease from Stage 5 to Stage 3 by Monday.

However, it warned that higher stages might be necessary if diesel supplies remain constrained.

Load shedding continued at Stage 5 until 05:00 on Saturday and will drop to Stage 4 at midnight.

Ramaphosa tells South Africans to ‘persevere’ amid load shedding

President Cyril Ramaphosa has once again assured South Africans that the current load shedding crisis is being dealt with by Eskom.

Ramaphosa made the remarks during his address for the national Heritage Day celebrations at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Saturday, 24 September 2022.

Eskom has been struggling to keep the lights on lately, having even ramped up the rolling blackouts to stage 6, due to breakdowns at some of its power stations. Stage 5 load shedding is expected to continue at least until Sunday morning at 05:00, after which stage 4 of the rolling blackouts for 24 hours.

First batch of 10 000 new Constables welcomed

On Friday, 23 September, the first batch of 10 000 newly trained Constables were welcomed to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The fraternity welcomed 495 newly trained Constables within its ranks.

“The new Constables are the first batch of 10 000 police officers that will be deployed to various stations, units and service points to bolster capacity and enhance police visibility,” said Colonel Athlenda Mathe, the police spokesperson.

LOOK: More dead fish found in Umgeni River in eThekwini

A shoal of dead fish has been spotted at Umgeni River in eThekwini as the metro municipality in KwaZulu-Natal continues to battle extremely high levels of E.coli.

Dead fish have been spotted at the river banks of Umgeni for a number of times in recent months. This has led the eThekwini Municipality to close some its beaches with immediate effect as the water quality does not meet acceptable standards.
