‘100% on board’: Steve Hofmeyr and son call for Dis-Chem boycott

Days after vowing to support his “local pharmacy business”, Steve Hofmeyr has continued his social media criticism of Dis-Chem and its pledge to support South African BEE policies.

The outspoken singer and activist responded to the controversy surrounding the retailer after an internal memo went viral last week

In it, the nationwide pharmacy group revealed that they were placing a “moratorium” on hiring white individuals. This was due to them keeping with labour legislation.

WATCH: First PHOTOS of Len Cloete since the Mulderdrift shooting

Photos and a video of Len Cloete, the father of seven, shot by police at a lodge in Muldersdrift in November last year, were posted for the first time on Saturday.

The shooting has left Len paralyzed on the right side of his body. His wife Chantel posted the photos and video on social media on Saturday, which is their 6 year anniversary.

Free State farmer struck and killed by lightning in veld

Police said the 68-year-old Free State farmer went to the veld to collect his sheep and to close the gates when he was struck and killed by lightning. 

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said it happened on Thursday evening around 21:00 on a farm in Bultfontein

“The 68-year-old farmer went to the veld to collect his sheep and to close the gates. The wife, who was at the farmhouse, got worried when her husband took a long time to return.”

Giraffe that trampled toddler NOT put down – Kuleni Game Park

The giraffe involved in the fatal trampling of a toddler and her mother has not been euthanised, according to the Kuleni Game Park.

Earlier reports stated that the wild animal was euthanised but trustees at the game park said the giraffe is still alive.

In a statement, the trustees said the giraffe mother and her calf moved into the surrounding bush, unharmed.

“Following the incident, the giraffes, including the mother and calf, moved off into the surrounding bush, unharmed,”

RIP: Three Gauteng learners pass away in separate incidents

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has sent condolences to families of three learners from different schools who passed away in separate incidents. 

All three incidents were reported this weekend. 

  • According to the Gauteng Department of Education, an eight-year-old boy learner from Ecaleni Learners with Special Needs School in Tembisa passed away on Friday, 21 October 2022, after reportedly falling unconscious in a scholar transport bus a week prior to his death. 

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said reports allege that on Friday, 14 October, while being transported home, the learner suddenly fell unconscious and was bleeding from the mouth. The transport driver applied first aid to the learner and took him home to receive further care.
