The City of Johannesburg has a new Executive Mayor! Coalition partners have voted for the African National Congress’s (ANC) Regional Chairperson Dada Morero.

President Cyril Ramaphosa continues to deny any criminality or wrongdoing on his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) again increased the repo rate recently, which left borrowers shaken and concerned due to the increased interest rate.

The police said it ventured “into the deep seas” during an operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, on Thursday, 29 September, and hooked tons of squid and bags of dagga from a non-compliant vessel.

ANC reclaims City of Johannesburg as Dada Morero is voted Mayor

The City of Johannesburg has a new Executive Mayor! Coalition partners have voted for the African National Congress’s (ANC) Regional Chairperson Dada Morero.

This comes after the Johannesburg City Council speaker, Colleen Makhubele passed a motion of no confidence against the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Mpho Phalatse and Morero was voted in on Friday, 30 September.

Phalatse, who filed court papers in a last-minute bid to stop Friday’s meeting from going through (which was struck off the roll) lost the vote of motion of no confidence against her after 139 of the 145 councillors who signed the register voted for the motion to be tabled. Members of the DA and the IFP abstained from voting.

Ramaphosa denies money laundering on Phala Phala farm

President Cyril Ramaphosa continues to deny any criminality or wrongdoing on his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.

Ramaphosa appeared before Members of Parliament in the National Assembly (NA), with proceedings held at the Good Hope Chamber on Thursday, 29 September 2022.

Ramaphosa was asked a range of questions by MPs, including about how he intends attending to the current load shedding crisis, the high crime rate as well as the robbery on his farm.

“There was no form of money laundering. It was proceeds from the sale of the game. I have been a game farmer for a number of years. That is an activity that sometimes results in the sale of animals”

Over 4.6 tons of squid confiscated from overloaded trawler

The police said it ventured “into the deep seas” during an operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, on Thursday, 29 September, and hooked tons of squid and bags of dagga from a non-compliant vessel.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs (DFFE) and various police units were conducting inspections on fishing vessels in the sea near Van Stadens.

“As they embarked on a local trawler, they established that the vessel was carrying more people on board as it was supposed to,” said Naidu.

Warning: Severe storms, excessive lightning and HAIL expected on FRIDAY

SEVERE storms with excessive lightning and a large amount of small hail are expected in parts of South Africa on Friday. 

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS) localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, property, vehicles, livelihood, and livestock can be expected.

This is due to the combination of heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, excessive lightning, and large amounts of small hail. 

“Further, heavy downpours are expected to result in localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges and possibly cause minor vehicle accidents.”
