Beloved broadcaster Mark Pilgrim dies at 53, Hot 102.7 FM confirms

Johannesburg radio station Hot 102.7 FM confirmed the passing of beloved broadcaster Mark Pilgrim on Sunday morning, 5 March.

BREAKING: Mark Pilgrim dies

The radio station said Pilgrim lost his fight against cancer and commended him for his valiant fight.

“Mark passed peacefully with his fiancé Adrienne [Watkins] at home. His family thank you for being part of his journey, for loving him, celebrating him and supporting him always.”

Broadcaster Mark Pilgrim lost his battle with stage 4 lung cancer on Sunday. He leaves behind his two daughters and fiancé. 

The 53-year-old Hot102.7fm DJ had provided regular social media updates as he continued his brave battle against cancer.

The South African website reported that Pilgrim had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which he revealed in June 2022 had spread to his femur, the base of his spine, and lymph nodes.

Ramaphosa’s Cabinet is costing SA more than Zuma’s Cabinet

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet is costing South Africa more than former President Jacob Zuma’s cabinet. 

Ramaphosa has enabled ANC Ministers and Deputy Ministers to employ 624 personal staff members at a cost to taxpayers of at least R1 935 705 005 since he became President in February 2018.

According to Leon Schreiber, Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister for Public Service and Administration, the DA has been meticulously gathering evidence over the past six months on the cost of the staff components employed by the 27 Ministers and 35 Deputy Ministers in Ramaphosa’s government.

BREAKING: Ramaphosa to announce cabinet changes on Monday evening

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya addressed the media on Sunday afternoon, 5 March. He confirmed Cyril Ramaphosa suffered from a cold this week but denied it resulted in a delay in the cabinet reshuffle.

Magwenya said Ramaphosa suffered from a ‘minor’ common cold this week. He said there was never a confirmed date set for the cabinet reshuffle.

According to media reports, Ramaphosa was due to announce the changes to his cabinet on Thursday but decided against it at the last minute.
