Johannesburg: Residents awake to 4.2 magnitude TREMOR

A number of residents in Johannesburg South awoke to the ground shaking around them on Sunday, 30 October.

Reports state that seismic activity approximately 10 kilometres from Westonaria resulted in a tremor hitting Joburg South.

eNCA reports that a 4.2 magnitude tremor hit the area adding that this is considered a light earthquake according to the Richter Scale.

Table Mountain fire: Blaze reportedly ‘100% contained’

Spokesperson for the South African National Parks (SANParks) Lauren Howard Clayton confirmed that the blaze on Table Mountain was ‘100% contained’.

Clayton said that it was contained on the evening of Saturday, 29 October. Mop-up operations in the area are ongoing.

According to Clayton, a team of 20 firefighters from the Nature Conservation Corporation (NCC) Wildfires began the mop-up operations along the fire line in areas that were accessible on Saturday evening.

She said new crews would arrive on Sunday, 30 October, morning to continue with mop-up operations within the burnt area on Table Mountain.

Woman gives BIRTH while unconscious for seven months

Last week, a 23-year-old woman – who has been unconscious for seven months – delivered a healthy baby girl.

On 1 April, the woman was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre in New Delhi, India, with a severe head injury. The young woman was reportedly travelling with her husband on a 2-wheeler the night before.

The woman and her husband were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident, says Neurosurgeon Dr Deepak Gupta.

Teacher suspended for allegedly sexually assaulting 21 minors

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has suspended a teacher who was arrested for sexually assaulting 21 students.

The 35-year-old teacher faces 15 counts of sexual assault. He also faces nine counts of exposing minors to pornography.

The primary school teacher allegedly abused victims between the ages of 13 and 17 in class. EWN reports that in some cases, he lured the children to his home.

WATCH: Machete-wielding man smiles while trying to hijack car

A video of a smiling man armed with a machete attempting to hijack a vehicle has gone viral online.

Ash Massacre shared the video on TikTok earlier this week. Massacre was seated in the passenger seat of a car that was stuck in traffic in Queensland, Australia.

Taking to the video-sharing app, Massacre said the man ‘politely’ requested to be let inside the vehicle.
