Three bodies have been recovered, while 40 patients have been admitted into different hospitals due to the floods and mudslides in the mining town Jagersfontein in the Free State.

Residents have been evacuated from their homes following a catastrophic morning(Sunday, 11 September).

Search and rescue efforts were underway after a mine dam bursts its walls causing flooding.

Four men believed to be bouncers suffered serious injuries after they were shot outside a nightclub on Harvey Road in Greyville, Durban.

The Cape Town police shot and killed two alleged armed robbers in Epping on Sunday afternoon, 11 September. Five suspects were arrested, four of which were “seriously wounded” in the shootout. An unknown number of suspects managed to escape and remain at large.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says crime has spread in South Africa and that law and order are no longer being observed. 

And lastly, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has responded to concerns from parents and students regarding the Life Orientation paper that was written on 5 September.

The Department has assured learners that no one will be disadvantaged.

Mining town residents evacuated after mine dam collapsed

Mining town residents of Jagersfontein in the Free State have been evacuated from their homes following a catastrophic morning(Sunday, 11 September).

At about 6am, the residents were greeted by mudslides infiltrating their homes after a mine dam wall burst – causing it to collapse.

The incident has caused major flooding in this diamond mining town, with roads and properties severely impacted. This disaster has reportedly left the mining town without electricity.

Three bodies have been recovered while 40 patients are admitted into different hospitals due to the floods and mudslides in the Free State.

The Premier of the Free State Sisi Ntombela and her government activated the disaster management teams to conduct a search and rescue.

This after a mine dam collapsed in Jagersfontein, leading to floods and mudslides which left the nearby communities affected. This swept away houses and cars in the area.

BREAKING: Bouncers gunned down outside Durban nightclub

Four men believed to be bouncers were allegedly shot in a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub on Harvey Road in Greyville, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident reportedly happened around 22:06 on Saturday, 10 September. 

According to Netcare 911, reports indicate that four adult males, believed to be bouncers of the establishment, were shot in a drive-by shooting while standing at the front entrance.

The Cape Town police shot and killed two alleged armed robbers in Epping on Sunday afternoon, 11 September. Five suspects were arrested, four of which were “seriously wounded” in the shootout. An unknown number of suspects managed to escape and remain at large.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said a “substantial amount of cash” was taken from a hypermarket in Epping on Sunday afternoon. Cases of armed robbery and attempted murder have been opened.

‘No learner will be disadvantaged’ – Education Dept on LO paper

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has responded to concerns from parents and students regarding the Life Orientation paper that was written on 5 September.

The Department has assured learners that no one will be disadvantaged. Spokesperson for the Basic Education Department Elijah Mhlanga said that Life Orientation is assessed in the main by the teacher in the classroom.
