A witness who testified in the trial of Enyobeni tavern owners says one of the owners watched as teenagers collapsed and died.

Meanwhile, Parliament’s SCOPA plans to summon former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter for a second appearance, seeking clarification on corruption allegations.

In other news, A few police trainees at the SAPS Academy in Hammanskraal have also tested positive for cholera as there is an outbreak in the area.

The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that the death toll due to the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane has increased to 20.

Enyobeni: “Tavern owner watched as children collapsed and died”

Twenty-one teenagers lost their lives at the Enyobeni Tavern in June last year, and the owners are on trial at the East London Magistrates Court.

According to one of the state witnesses, one of the Enyobeni tavern owners, Siyakhangela Ndevu, allegedly watched as the underage children collapsed to their deaths in his establishment.

Enyobeni establishment owners, Ndevu and his wife, Vuyikazi, are on trial in the East London Magistrates Court on charges of selling liquor to underage children.

De Ruyter to face SCOPA again over Eskom allegations as Parliament seeks answers

Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) intends to call former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter for another appearance to answer questions about his allegations of corruption at the embattled power utility.

SCOPA Chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) CEO Busisiwe Mavuso would also be called because it appeared that she had knowledge of the private investigation de Ruyter launched while he was at the helm of the company.

Since his last appearance before the Committee, de Ruyter has published a book on his three years at Eskom, which will give MPs a greater reserve to draw questions from. In the book, the former CEO wrote that BUSA helped fund the private investigation by George Fivaz Forensic and Risk.

SAPS trainees in Hammanskraal academy test positive for cholera

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has started delivering bottled water to police trainees at the training academy in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane after three tested positive for cholera.

National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola visited the SAPS training academy in Hammanskraal to assess the impact of the cholera outbreak and to put measures in place to ensure the well-being of the trainees.

Hammanskraal schools to get clean water as death toll increases

The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that the death toll due to the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane has increased to 20.

Health MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko confirmed this on Thursday, 25 Mat as she delivered her department’s budget vote.

Nkomo-Ralehoko said the number of patients that have been seen at Jubilee District Hospital as of 24 May in the afternoon stands at 179 and the number includes 18 patients who have been transferred to Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

The weather services warned that light SNOW is expected in several parts of South Africa TODAY.

THE LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL TODAY

According to VoxWeather forecaster Annette Botha, the light snow is likely late evening on Thursday into Friday (25-26 May).
