The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has labelled former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter as a ‘naysayer’ and challenged him to come forward with evidence of political corruption within Eskom.

Meanwhile, Eskom shed more than 7000MW during the evening peak again on Wednesday without notifying the public about the escalation in load shedding.

And lastly, the Minister of Health, Dr. Joe Phaahla, announced the first death linked to the recent cases of cholera detected in South Africa, as the number of laboratory-confirmed cases rose to five.

Lioness on the loose in North West

A lioness escaped her container while transported to the Tlakgameng Nature Reserve in North West on Wednesday morning, 22 February. Members of the public are urged to be cautious in the area.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma said the lioness’ container was on the back of a Ford Ranger bakkie.

The animal escaped somewhere along Beesdam Road between Stella and Tlakgameng at approximately 8:00 on Wednesday.

WATCH: De Ruyter gave bombshell interview ‘soon after’ cyanide poisoning

Axed Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter gave the bombshell interview that seemingly saw him removed from office with immediate effect days after he discovered he might have been poisoned.

After he resigned on 14 December, de Ruyter revealed that an alleged attempt had been made on his life.

He said doctors found elevated levels of cyanide in his blood. He was allegedly poisoned on 12 December. In January, Eskom confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) were investigating whether there was an attempt to poison the outgoing CEO.

Mbalula challenged De Ruyter to bring evidence of corruption

The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has labelled former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter as a ‘naysayer’ and challenged him to come forward with evidence of political corruption within Eskom.

Mbalula was responding to comments made by De Ruyter in an interview with e. TV journalist Annika Larsen, in a show titled My Guest. In the interview, De Ruyter alleged widespread corruption at Eskom was being masked and protected by the ANC.

Unprecedented Stage 7 load shedding continues for second day without Eskom proclamation

For the second day in a row, load shedding seemingly reached an unprecedented level – Stage 7 – without a public proclamation from Eskom.

The evening peak feedback, which is published by Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshasha daily, shows that the power utility shed 7092MW on Wednesday evening.

Health Minister announces first cholera death

The Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, announced the first death linked to the recent cases of cholera detected in South Africa, as the number of laboratory-confirmed cases rose to five.

The death follows an announcement of three cholera cases a few weeks ago.

The fourth case is a 28-year-old male residing in Alexandra Township with no local or international travel history.
