Diphtheria cases detected in SA – Phaahla urges public not to panic

South Africa has recorded two positive cases of Diphtheria disease. The Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, called for vigilance and urged the public not to panic.

The Department of Health described Diphtheria as an uncommon serious infection. However, it is vaccine-preventable.

The infection is caused by a toxin-producing bacterium (Corynebacterium diphtheria), which may lead to difficulty breathing, heart rhythm issues and even death.

Very COLD weather and SNOW expected TODAY in these parts of SA

Brace yourself! Very COLD temperatures and more SNOW are expected today in these parts of South Africa.

According to Vox Weather, forecaster Annette Botha the freezing levels are expected to drop significantly from Thursday into Friday.

This is as two fronts and an upper-level trough are expected to bring RAIN, SNOW, and a SIGNIFICANT DROP IN TEMPERATURE across the Cape Provinces.

South Africa continues to try ‘clear way’ for Putin’s visit

Discussions around South Africa’s obligation towards the International Criminal Court (ICC) are ongoing.

This comes as the South African government confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be attending the 15th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) summit in South Africa in August.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) earlier this year issued an arrest warrant for Putin, accusing him of the war crime of illegal deportation of children from Ukraine. The alleged crimes were committed in occupied Ukrainian territory from at least 24 February 2022.

From factory packer to qualified KZN teacher

A 52-year-old mother who started as a factory packer recently graduated and is now a qualified teacher with a degree.

The 52-year-old Halala Zanele Mzobe obtained her degree from SANTS, Private Higher Education Institution. This leading distance learning institution recently hosted its ceremony for the Class of 2022 in Empangeni, KwaZulu Natal.

According to SANTS spokesperson Nonkululeko Maringa, Mzobe started her career as a packer at a large factory, working long hours and struggling to make ends meet.

Former Kaizer Chiefs official in court for R100million fraud

Louis Tshakaone, a former public relations officer for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, made an appearance at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday. The 74-year-old made an appearance alongside his wife Suzan Tshakoane, 59, and Louis Tshakoane Jr,34.
