A new campaign is hoping to use Freedom Day as a platform to highlight the shocking levels of human trafficking going on inside South Africa. According to #TheTraffickYouNeedToKnow project, 64% of these victims are children – and all of our national ‘hot-spots’ for these crimes can be found in one province.

Be warned, a Level 10 severe veld fire weather warning has been issued for parts of the country by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for Thursday. 

Meanwhile, social justice organisations have slammed the new regulations set out for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD)/R350 grant saying the poor will be poorer.

South Africa identifies 12 human traffickings ‘hot-spots’ – all in ONE province

Level 10 SEVERE weather warnings were issued for Thursday

A Level 10 severe veld fire weather warning has been issued for parts of the country by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

It warned of veld fire conditions from early on Thursday until late in the evening.

SASSA R350 grant: New regulations will leave the poor poorer

Social justice organisations have slammed the new regulations set out for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD)/R350 grant saying the poor will be poorer. 

Under the National State of Disaster, the income threshold for one to be eligible for the R350 grant was R595 and has been reduced to R350 under the new regulations.

Mom from hell: Durban woman drowns daughter in bucket – ‘for being difficult’

This is just utterly, unspeakably evil: A 45-year-old mother from Ballito in Durban is facing a very long time behind bars, after she decided to DROWN her young daughter because ‘she was being difficult’. KZN SAPS have confirmed that the mom is now in police custody, and will appear in court on Thursday

These details aren’t for the faint-hearted. But so far, we understand that police were called to the scene after a nearby resident suspected that the four-year-old victim had been killed. Sure enough, officers who arrived at the property came across the body of the toddler – who also had her hands tied with tape.
