The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) confirmed that two of its member taxi associations will embark on a strike on Thursday, 24 March, in Cape Town. Approximately 2000 operators are expected to participate in the march.

Massive taxi strike planned for Thursday in Cape Town

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) confirmed that two of its member taxi associations will embark on a strike on Thursday, 24 March, in Cape Town.

SANTACO said CATA and CODETA have been granted permission for a joint march to the office of the Western Cape Premier. The two associations, which were the heart of the deadly taxi violence in the City in 2021, will present a memorandum with a set of grievances to Alan Winde.

The video shows how a taxi swerves multiple times without any passengers on board before crashing into another vehicle.A man is seen flung meters into the air due to impact.

The person taking the video can be heard reacting with shock and horror as the two vehicles collide. A man is heard saying -“But I showed he what he is doing!”

‘This will make SA more accessible’: Sisulu on latest regulations

Tourism Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu has welcomed the revised Covid-19 regulations on travel in South Africa.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the changes during his address to the nation on Tuesday, 22 March. Sisulu said they welcome the revised regulations as the department is looking forward to a brighter year for the country’s tourism sector recovery.

Sisulu said the revisions will immediately address some challenges that travellers and the tourism industry have expressed and will make South Africa more accessible and attractive.

‘It’s time for MANDATORY jabs in SA’ – Abdool Karim slams unvaccinated

Professor Salim Abdool Karim has courted controversy on Wednesday, after he reiterated his desires to see COVID-19 jabs made mandatory in South Africa. The esteemed medical expert was also advocating for ‘vaccine passes’, which would have the power to prevent unvaccinated citizens from ‘mixing with others’.

Although COVID-19 cases remain extremely low in South Africa, there is still concern within government about the national vaccination rate. Less than half of the population has taken a shot in the arm. Statistics made public by Cyril Ramaphosa last night highlighted the major issues facing Mzansi.

In total, 68% of people older than 60 have been vaccinated.
But only 35% of people between 18 and 35 years have had their COVID-19 jabs.
The national number of people fully vaccinated stands at just over 48%, with 52% still unvaccinated.
President Ramaphosa has previously spoken about wanting to get this number up to 70%.
