Eskom provided an update on the power system on Sunday, 22 January, and announced that load shedding would be permanently implemented over the next two years.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a weather advisory for a heatwave in Gauteng on Sunday, 22 January.

The heatwave advisory is valid from 00:00 on Sunday until 17:00 on Tuesday, 24 January. The affected municipalities include the City of Johannesburg, the City of Tshwane, West Rand, Sedibeng, and Ekurhuleni.

PERMANENT load shedding for the next two years: Eskom

Eskom provided an update on the power system on Sunday, 22 January, and announced that load shedding would be permanently implemented over the next two years.

Eskom chairperson, Mpho Makwana, said power cuts between Stages 2 and 3 are planned for the next two years to create “some predictability” and allow the power utility enough room to perform maintenance.

Gauteng heatwave: Temperatures between 32C and 37C until Tuesday

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a weather advisory for a heatwave in Gauteng on Sunday, 22 January.

The heatwave advisory is valid from 00:00 on Sunday until 17:00 on Tuesday, 24 January. The affected municipalities include the City of Johannesburg, the City of Tshwane, West Rand, Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni.

“Very hot temperatures will result in uncomfortable conditions over Gauteng Province, where temperatures between 32 and 37 degrees are likely,” said the weather service.

Police officials ATTACKED when helping stranded motorist

Police officials were attacked and shot at when they stopped to help a stranded motorist.

South African Police Service (SAPS) management in Mpumalanga has called for an end to the heinous attack on police officers.

Two Witbank Flying Squad members on routine patrol helped a motorist who had broken down. While the members were still assisting, another motorist stopped in the opposite direction.

Folklore or fact? The mystery of the Sea Point tunnel to Graaff’s Pool

A tunnel that is said to have run from a mansion opposite Graaff’s Pool in Sea Point, Cape Town, is the subject of local folklore. The blocked-off archway can still be seen today and many tales, which have been reshaped and retold over time, surround its origin.

The high, white concrete wall surrounding Graaf’s Pool was partially removed in June 2005. Alderman JP Smith, a Sea Point ward councillor at the time, led the charge for the wall’s destruction, saying it promoted “anti-social behaviour” by obscuring criminal activities, including prostitution and drug use, from public view.

News24 reported that Smith wanted to break the wall further down to the rock surface and restore the area to its original state.
