Sunday, 19 June, marks seven days since missing 6-year-old Khayalethu Magadla slipped and fell into a manhole in Soweto.

The youngster had been playing with his friends when he slipped and fell into a manhole last week.

In other news, a 26-year-old man has died after he was allegedly stabbed by another male inside McDonald’s fast food services at Highveld Mall in Mpumalanga. 

A Traffic Department in the Enoch Mgijima Municipality was robbed by an armed gang that made off with an estimated R70 000 worth of cash. 

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interview of Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) president Mandisa Maya for the Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) position will take place on Monday.

The role became vacant when President Cyril Ramaphosa controversially appointed Raymond Zondo as the new Chief Justice on 10 March. In doing so, Ramaphosa snubbed the JSC-recommended Maya.

Meanwhile, the ConCourt has ruled against suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane in her high court application for leave to appeal its judgement.

Day 7: Khayalethu Magadla is still not found – here’s the latest

unday, 19 June marks seven days since missing 6-year-old Khayalethu Magadla slipped and fell into a manhole in Soweto.

The youngster had been playing with his friends when he slipped and fell into a manhole last week. Since then, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) personnel have spent everyday on the ground trying every rescue technique at their disposal.

To intensify the search, EMS introduced high-tech gadgets in the means of a boat and robot to be the eyes of the personnel in unreachable places of the manhole.

Man stabbed to death at McDonald’s drive-thru

A 26-year-old man has died after he was allegedly stabbed by another male inside McDonald’s fast food services at Highveld Mall in Mpumalanga. 

The Witbank police have requested the assistance of the community to trace and arrest an unknown suspect who stabbed and killed the 26-year-old. 

The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, 18 June 2022.

Traffic Department robbed by armed bogus contractors

Police in Komani (Queenstown) in the Eastern Cape are probing a case of armed robbery after municipal officials were held at gunpoint at Enoch Mgijima Municipality Traffic Department offices.

According to the Enoch Mgijima Municipality, the armed robbery occurred on Friday, 17 June at about 10am where two municipal staff members and four members of a contractor working at the Municipal offices were held at gunpoint by four armed men.

No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained, however, the robbers made off with an unverified amount of money, currently estimated to be around R70 000, the Municipality confirmed.

ConCourt scraps Mkhwebane’s application to appeal high court judgement

For a second time this week, Busiswe Mkhwebane has been dealt a heavy blow. This time, it is the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) that comes bearing bad news.

With that, a likely court date with President Cyril Ramaphosa over her suspension is far from being the only thing to gnaw at the suspended public protector’s mind.

SA’s apex court delivered its judgement on Wednesday, days after Ramaphosa rejected the ultimatum from Mkhwebane to reverse her suspension.

Snow, cold and rain expected for parts of SA this week

Snow, cold, and rain are expected for parts of South Africa this coming week.

According to the SA Weather Service (SAWS) a cut-off low-pressure system is expected to develop along the coast of Namibia on Sunday, 19 June 2022, moving over the Northern Cape on Tuesday.

“Cut-off lows are associated with widespread instability in the atmosphere, which can promote periods of prolonged rainfall. Showers and thundershowers can be expected over parts of the Cape provinces from Monday onwards with associated cold daytime temperatures and windy conditions while spreading to parts of the Free State and North West on Tuesday night and Wednesday.”
