A lot can change overnight, but we’ll keep you in the know with the latest news stories and headlines in South Africa on Monday, 14 March 2022.

After initially suspending all Comair flights and its operating certificate for 24 hours, the South African Civil Aviation Authority has now made that suspension indefinite.

This means that all Kulula and British Airways flights in and from South Africa have now been grounded. The decision has already affected hundreds of travellers and is now set to affect many more. The CAA says it all comes down to safety concerns that simply were not addressed by Comair.

Shocking new details of billions of rand in unpaid amounts were revealed last week during a meeting of the Gauteng Legislature’s Finance Committee. The department owes R3.1 billion to 42 519 suppliers who have not been paid within the legally required 30 days.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the murder of Limpopo University professor and accountant Saber Tayob Mohammed. The 51-year-old was an associate professor in the Department of Financial Accounting and was reportedly shot 10 times at close range on Sunday in what appears to be a hit.

And more sad news, a four-year-old girl from the Free State is STILL missing despite increased search operations by police, residents, and the SAPS Airwing.

We just love this! A video of 79-year-old Gogo, who bought herself a brand new Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI has gone viral. This Gogo, who is clearly an adrenaline junkie, has just proven to the world that the need for speed does not have an age limit.
