Motorist alert: Online drivers licence system is coming to Mzansi

Get ready South African motorists. It looks like we’re finally about to enjoy the online drivers licence system service that we deserve, the Department of Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Wednesday.

ONLINE DRIVERS LICENCE SERVICE GOING BEYOND GP

As reported here by The South African, the minister and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), laid out the long-anticipated service plans in September 2021.

Answering questions in the National Assembly this week, Mbalula said the system was a success in the Gauteng province, and therefore laid the perfect foundation to introduce the online drivers licence across the land.

“The online booking system that was initially introduced in Gauteng, currently managed by RTMC (Road Traffic Management Corporation), on behalf of Gauteng, has provided a good basis for the RTMC to introduce a bouquet of online services across the country,” he said quoted by Businesstech.

MINISTERS THREATENED WITH LEGAL ACTION OVER PETROL PRICE

Meanwhile, South African motorists have been delighted to discover some hope regarding the insane fuel cost hike that was announced last month.

An economic expert has confirmed trade union Solidarity has sent letters to the Department of Energy and Finance ministers Gwede Mantashe and Enoch Godongwana, to demand deregulation of fuel prices and reduce fuel levies.

According to the report, trade union Solidarity has sent formal writings to the two ministers following an expected record cost hike of nearly R20 per litre in November 2021.

The proposals are aimed at easing the financial pressure on motor drivers and fuel businesses across the land.

“South Africans currently find themselves in the precarious position that many people have not fully recovered financially from the devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Theuns du Buisson, economic researcher at Solidarity.
