Wednesday’s news cycle was dull in comparison to the madness of Tuesday. We’re winding down towards the weekend. Here’s a wrap of some of the most important bits.

No nation-wide blackout, yet

While we all seem to live in perpetual fear that the lights will be out for an entire day all across the country, Eskom has labelled rumours on social media that this will happen Thursday – as in today – as “fake news”. 

Ice, ice, baby

SA Agulhas II will head off to Antarctica on Thursday with SANAE 58 team members who will be spending 14 months in the ice.

The SA Agulhas II is also be undertaking the historic Weddell Sea Expedition, a 45-day voyage in Antarctica. The Weddell Sea Expedition entails a programme of marine and glaciological research in the in Antarctica.

Through the use of highly sophisticated state of the art technology, and with the SA Agulhas II as a base, the expedition will attempt to locate and survey the historic wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance which sank in the Antarctica’s Larsen C ice shelf in 1915.
